Traveling Cinema: Excess

EXCESS is an expanded cinema performance that we developed to end a night of experimental film in the Kunstwerke Köln; the program -Avantgarde, Politik und Psyche- curated by Peter Beyer. The performance was also shown at Heidelberger Kunstverein to accompany the exhibition of Joscha Steffens: GHOST / WARRIOR.

The images consist of historical german found footage, 16mm film of the Second World War, as well as hand-processed, laser-printed 16mm contact prints. The two-channel-screening was accompanied by a reading and an electronic and acoustic live sound performance in cooperation with the sound artist and musician Elizabeth Fuegemann.

Within this piece we worked with theory and poetic texts by Jose Ortega y Gasset, Paul Virilio, Albertus Magnus and Soeren Kirkegaard to establish a relation between the footage, the sound and the topic of the event.
